I thought the only way to live in Bremerton was to purchase a house in a nice area and fix it up, as I helped Don do last year. This was also when I lived in one of the WORST areas of town (please see Pleasant Ave. pics) and was just not a happy camper about becoming a Bremertonian. However, after finding this little gem of a place six months later, right by the water and a highly-used park and in an area that is so dedicated to becoming a very community-oriented neighborhood, this Navy town can actually be a quirky place to live, especially on McKenzie Avenue.

My apartment is on the second floor. Stella (the car) lives out front. The cats next door like to sleep on my balcony and on the car. The cafe, Cafe Destino, is literally to the right of me. The former owners, the Cruvers, are my incredibly awesome landlords. They sold the business recently, which is so sad, because it has become THE place for community gatherings. Let's hope it continues to be that way. Best of luck to the Cruvers.

The view, Evergreen Park. If you can believe it, about five years ago or so, this place used to be an industrial wasteland. The cafe used to be a filling station of some sort.

Yea, a garden again! My covered balcony/bbq pit/garden shed

The entry hall/living room - tall ceilings! original windows! original hardwood floors!
Dining area/Office/Kitchen

a HUGE kitchen - well, storage probably isn't much more than Pleasant Avenue, but it's just SO MUCH CLEANER. And real tile floors! And much more room to dance while making Italian food!

blah, bedroom.
okay, explanation: the picture on the left shows what I can see when I stand on the floor. Hence, to the right, a step stool is needed to see anything below my chin.

Thanks to Mom and all those Homearama shows, I can truly appreciate a pedestal sink.

a fully-utilized closet.
